Firmly bound, clean unmarked pages, some moderate creasing and scuffing to upper edge of jacket. This is a beautiful tome to honor the rich history of one of Rioja's most well respected, grand old bodegas, La Rioja Alta. As much an historical account of the bodega as it is of Rioja, the book is full of interesting information about not only all the elements of terruño (terroir) which make Rioja so special, but also everything that goes into creating a bottle of wine at La Rioja Alta. From establishing a vineyard to harvesting, creating barrels all the way up to bottling and ageing the wine. Gorgeous color photography, informative charts and tables, as well as plenty of archival material makes this not only informative, but a joy to read - as much for the Rioja afficionado as for anyone who spies a copy of the book on the coffee table. The last several pages consist of a vintage chart tracking the quality of Rioja vintages from La Rioja Alta's founding in 1890 all the way to 2008. For any lover of wines from Rioja, this could quite well be the most informative and beautiful book to ever cover the topic.
